"I knew that after my undergraduate learning at the University of Southern Mississippi was completed, there was still more that I wanted to know about chemistry. Possessing only a bacheloršs degree in chemistry, I did not have the skills or knowledge necessary for me to achieve the goals that I had set. I determined that graduate study would help to establish discipline as well as enhance my practical research skills. The University of Alabama has a very good reputation, and the professors I have worked with have been very helpful. The research they are performing has piqued my interest and has inspired me toward further studies. After completing my doctorate, I plan to instruct chemistry. I want to devote myself to teaching and motivating students as I have been taught and inspired." |

"An Introduction to Social Work class allowed me to gain a better understanding of how I could be an active agent in making other peoplešs lives more enjoyable. After taking this class, I decided to pursue a career which would provide opportunities to help adolescents who have trouble in school. There are very few opportunities for school social workers without MSWs. I know I am pursuing a degree within an established program with a national reputation. I am impressed both with the program and the professors." |

"Up until the completion of senior high school study in 1992, I had been living in a major petro-chemical complex area in China. The way workers turned crude oil into useful products intrigued me and it became my dream to turn useless into useful. I wanted to dig more truth from the unknown and apply the knowledge to solving practical problems. In order to do this I knew further study would be essential. From personal research, I found that the Department of Chemical Engineering at The University of Alabama had a very qualified faculty and ample resources which could equip me with a sharp edge for my career. My experiences here have confirmed these findings." |

"I am interested in scholarly research as it pertains to the critique of and examination of discourses on difference within society. Also, I am committed to helping prepare future scholars to examine underlying assumptions of race and gender that exist within the media. Graduate study in mass communication at The University of Alabama will enable me to help educate people, especially women and communities of color, to the power and possibilities of mass media. I feel my studies here will prepare me to become an educator for the 21st Century." |

"As an undergraduate at the University of Illinois, I realized that writing would always be a big part of my life. Five years out of college, I found myself longing for further instruction. I had learned a lot about poetry over the years, but there was still much more that I did not know. This desire for further study led me to the Creative Writing program at The University of Alabama. Attending the University has allowed me to learn more specifically about the tools of poets and to acquire a greater understanding of writing techniques in a stimulating and encouraging environment." |
