2. Helpful Hints
The process of applying for financial aid can be confusing and time
consuming, especially to the first-time applicant. You can increase
your chances of receiving financial aid by doing the following:
- Apply for financial aid if you
believe you need it. Don't assume you won't qualify.
Apply to as many sources as you can find. The more you explore,
the greater your chances of success.
- Be sure to obtain all required
forms. Fill the forms out completely and be prepared to provide
supporting documents such as copies of federal tax forms and
financial aid transcripts from schools you have attended.
- Complete all forms legibly and
accurately. Check your application for errors and omissions can
cause delays.
- Follow up on your aid
application if you receive no response within a reasonable
period of time.
- Copy, copy, copy!!! Keep
copies of all forms you submit.
- Apply for aid every year.
Communicate any special circumstances directly to the financial
aid officer, both before and, if necessary, after the award
decision is made.
- Be aware that financial aid
programs may change from year to year. It is up to you to find
out if any changes have occurred.
- Apply as early as possible.
Application deadlines vary, so pay close attention to each one.
By applying early, you can increase your chances of receiving
aid.
- Ask for information and help.
