DEADLINES FOR DOCTORAL DEGREE STUDENTS

 
Students who are planning to complete requirements for the doctoral degree for May graduation must meet certain deadlines set by the Graduate School. PLEASE NOTIFY OUR OFFICE AT ONCE IF YOU WILL BE UNABLE TO MEET THE DEADLINES.
 
January 2-18 Application for Degree must be on file in the Graduate School Office by those students who anticipate graduating this spring. A $10.00 fee is charged if you apply to graduate and graduation requirements are not met. (Application for admission to candidacy should precede applying for degree. It is the student's responsibility to see that admission to candidacy is on file in the Graduate School Office.) Both forms are available at: http://graduate.ua.edu/forms.html
March 2 An approved dissertation title card must be filed in the Graduate School Office. We must have the exact title (TYPED) by this date. The card is available at The Graduate School Office and in our website at: http://graduate.ua.edu/forms.html
March 30 Last day to submit successfully defended and edited dissertations to the Graduate School Office: NO EXCEPTIONS! (ENCLOSE ALL ITEMS IN TYPING PAPER BOX WITH A COVER AND DO NOT SUBMIT ITEMS SEPARATELY) 
  1. Receipt from the Office of Student Receivables for:
    Dissertation binding fee     $25.00
    Microfilming and abstract fee     $55.00
       
    TOTAL      $80.00

  2. Dissertation: two copies on 100% rag bond (cotton fiber) paper.

  3. Abstract of dissertation--typed in duplicate on 100% rag bond paper with original signatures on each (NOT OVER 350 WORDS). Sample is shown in the manual provided by the Graduate School Office or can be seen on our website:  Preparing Theses and Dissertations

  4. Dissertation acceptance page (to be bound in dissertation as page ii) typed in triplicate on 100% rag bond paper and approved with original signatures on each.   5. Microfilming contract--Be sure to indicate on contract the field of your dissertation. (Form available in Graduate School Office.) Include an extra copy of title page with this form. This form also acts as a copyright request. Copyrighting is optional and requires an additional $65.00 money order or certified check made payable to PQIL.

  6. Survey of Earned Doctorates. (Form available in Graduate School Office).
During the Month of April Pay Office of Student Receivables diploma fee $41.00 (Box 870120, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0120)
May 12 COMMENCEMENT: Arrangements for renting your cap, gown, and hood must be made through the University Supply Store (Box 870291, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487-0291) before the end of March. Office of Academic Records will send complete commencement information to candidates in March. Candidates for doctoral degrees are required to attend the commencement, when diplomas will be awarded. Only in extenuating circumstances will a request for absence from the exercise be approved. A written request for authorization of absence must be made to the Dean of the Graduate School well before graduation.
