Memorandum

TO: Deans, Department Chairs, and Graduate Program Directors
FROM: Ronald Rogers
SUBJECT: GRADUATE ASSISTANT TUITION AWARDS – FALL 2003 AND SPRING 2004

The requests for tuition awards for qualifying graduate students for the fall 2003 and spring 2004 semesters are due in this office by the following dates:

Fall 2003 – June 27, 2003     Spring 2004 – October 24, 2003

Please make a note of these important dates in your department calendars.

There have been no significant changes in the requirements for graduate students to be approved for tuition awards since last year, however please take the time to peruse the attached documents, which will refresh you on the salient points and hopefully clarify some areas of persistent confusion.

I have included three additional schedules that might be of assistance to you: two of them summarize the current position with regard to admission status of students and which types of assistantship they may hold (please see schedules 11 and 12), and the third indicates the types of assistantship available for non-native speakers of English with respect to their ITAP status (please see schedule 10).

Note that all of the forms that are to be used can be downloaded for electronic input purposes from the Graduate School web site at the following address:

http://www.graduate.ua.edu/assistantship.html, and from the Contract & Grant Accounting Office web site at: http://financialaffairs.ua.edu/finance/cga/cgforms.html

Please make sure that copies of this memo are forwarded to everyone in your area who has any responsibilities relating to the preparation of tuition forms for your graduate assistants. If you need any additional copies of this memo please go to the Graduate School web site and download copies directly.
